Jenny and Shane Mize

How did you meet?
We met through a mutual friend during my first quarter at Auburn in 1992. Shane had transferred to Auburn in the fall of 1991. It wasn’t very long before we were inseparable.
What is your favorite class or organization you were part of while at Auburn?
Jenny: I was part of the engineering student council, which gave me the opportunity to work on a project that ultimately became the Cupola Engineering Ambassadors. I am proud to be a founding member!
Shane: Aerospace Senior Design was my favorite class. The team work and project of designing an airplane together was an exciting way to wrap up years of hard work.
Where are you now? Tell us about your engineering journey after graduation!
We moved to Kingsport, Tennessee, when Jenny got a fulltime job opportunity with Eastman after graduation. She has been with Eastman for almost 29 years, and spent most of that time developing expertise in process safety. She recently got the opportunity to move to a manufacturing leadership role, and is currently leading a manufacturing department. Shane works for Dentsply Sirona in Johnson City making tools for endodontics (root canals!). After spending time in engineering design and capital roles, he currently leads a manufacturing department.
We love to spend time in Auburn supporting 100+ Women Strong, where Jenny serves on the executive committee, and visiting our younger son, Braden, who is a freshman in mechanical engineering. Our older son, Nick, is a senior in chemical engineering at the University of Tennessee.
What is your favorite Auburn tradition?
Jenny: My favorite Auburn tradition is the eagle flight at Jordan-Hare.
Shane: After watching the eagle fly, going to Toomer’s Corner, of course.
