Stephanie and Justin Dailey
Why Auburn Engineering?
We both looked at a number of schools before choosing Auburn, but our strong family ties - all of our parents plus many other family members are alumni - coupled with the strength of the engineering school made it an easy choice in the end. Both of our mothers are Auburn audiologists, and both of our fathers are Auburn engineers. Together they taught us the Auburn spirit as well as the traditions of engineering excellence from a young age. We both had attended football games and visited campus many times in our pre-college years, too, and grew up knowing and loving the Auburn Family. It turns out, we were both born orange and blue!
How did you meet? If you met on campus, could you tell us your Auburn story?
How we met is an unusual story. We mentioned earlier that all of our parents went to Auburn - actually, our mothers were roommates for a while when they were in graduate school and our fathers were roommates also. Our families stayed in touch through Christmas cards over the years, but different life paths meant our families never crossed paths for over three decades. In 2012, soon after the National Championship, we were both independently recruited by the same company to work in Austin, and when the company came to campus to recruit they invited us both to dinner since we were both future employees. Our mom’s had connected on Facebook so we knew of each other, but we certainly weren’t expecting the immediate connection we made when we met for the first time that night. We got our parents back together in person after 30 years soon after, and they have picked up right where they left off. We got married two years later
Where are you now? Tell us about your engineering journey after graduation!
After college, we moved to Austin, Texas to work for National Instruments in their Engineering Leadership Program. After a few years, I joined Facebook and Justin entered the start-up scene in Austin. After a few years in Austin, we decided we wanted a change to somewhere with an exciting tech scene and close to snowy outdoor adventures, so we are currently loving life in the Pacific Northwest – Seattle, Washington!
Justin is currently a Security Architect at Indeed, and I am a Security Engineer at Facebook. Outside of work, we spend a lot of our time skiing and hiking in the beautiful Cascade Mountains. We’re currently on a mission to see how many consecutive months we can ski together - we are currently on month 15! Our ski helmets have AU’s on them, too, so we are proudly representing when we’re out there and are happy to have had many ‘War Eagle’ moments in our ski adventures. Our engineering education at Auburn was the launching point for our lives in many ways, and we are grateful for how much the Auburn Family has influenced our lives. That’s why we believe in Auburn and love it. War Eagle!
