Biography

Dr. Megahed received his Ph.D. and M.S. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Virginia Tech, and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the American University in Cairo. His current research focuses on creating new tools to store, organize, analyze, model, and visualize the large heterogeneous data sets associated with modern manufacturing, healthcare and service environments.

His work in the analytics and visualization of Big Data has recently been funded by The Proctor and Gamble (P&G) Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Windows Azure (Microsoft) , The NIOSH Deep South Center for Occupational Safety and Ergonomics, The National Science Foundation (NSF), and The American Society for Safety Engineers Research Foundation .

Research Overview

From Data to Decisions through Analytics, Statistical Learning and Process Modeling

With the ever-increasing amount of data collected from different production and service systems, there is an increasing need to develop tools that can take advantage of this data to improve their operations. My research interests lie in the realm of exploring statistical and mathematical techniques for data integration, mining, and visualization to rapidly diagnose system inefficiencies. Currently, I am interested in several research thrust areas, which are highlighted in the video below.
