New EOL analyst aims to support initiatives at both department, university level

It’s fair to say that a job in data analysis doesn’t appeal to everyone, but Kenneth Jones has made it into a career he loves.

Jones joined the Engineering Online staff as a data analyst in June 2026.

“I enjoy bringing together data from across different areas and transforming complex information into clear, actionable insights that support informed decision-making,” he said.

Jones’ background includes teaching math and science, conducting biological and pharmaceutical research, and working with pharmacy automation systems and databases. He came to Auburn from Chattahoochee Valley Community College, where he served as data manager for the college. His role included compiling data reports; conducting surveys; supporting production of the annual strategic plan, Report on Measures, and Fact Book; and serving as administrator for the Xitracs Unit planning systems; among other duties.  

When he interviewed for the Engineering Online position, he said he became excited for the opportunity to work for a department that places so much emphasis on using data to make informed decisions and continually improve processes.

In the first few weeks on the team, Jones said he has focused on getting to know his co-workers and their roles, understanding the needs of campus partners, and becoming familiar with AU software and data systems.

Ultimately, he said he wants to become “one of the most effective analysts on campus” by improving and developing processes to respond quickly and efficiently to data requests that support Engineering Online program initiatives. Contributing to the university as a whole is also important to Jones.

 “I want to help strengthen collaboration across the institution by reducing data silos and promoting more integrated, accessible, and reliable data,” he added. “By improving how information is collected, shared, and used, I hope to support better decision-making and contribute to the university's strategic goals.”

Outside of work, Jones enjoys spending time with wife and four children as well as gardening, fishing, and grilling – “anything that lets me be outdoors and serve others.”

Jones commutes from his home in Columbus, Ga., to Auburn, but it’s not such a bad drive when you have a job you love and the undeniable “welcoming culture” on campus.

“Everyone I’ve met genuinely cares about the students, takes pride in their work, and makes Auburn feel like a true family,” he said.
