The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) Student Organization Pitch Competition, sponsored by the CEE Alumni Advisory Board, is back for its second year.

The competition will be held on November 13, providing CEE student organizations with the opportunity to pitch ideas to an alumni judging panel for further development. The competition aims to inspire innovation within student organizations and provide the support needed to bring their ideas to life.

For its second year, the Alumni Advisory Board will add preliminary mentoring sessions with the competing teams. This addition will give each organization a chance to gain constructive feedback before pitching at the competition.

The competition has two parts — a written pitch and a presentation, which includes:

  • A one-page pitch narrative outlining their ideas.
  • A ten-minute corresponding proposal presentation to the alumni judging panel, followed by a five-minute question and answer session with the judges.

“The CEE Student Organization Pitch Competition is a meaningful opportunity for students and alumni to connect and collaborate in advancing Auburn’s mission,” said David Timm, CEE chair. “Our alumni generously share their time, expertise and financial support, helping students strengthen their presentation skills while turning ideas into real impact. We are looking forward to seeing the excitement from our students and alumni as this year’s competition is rapidly approaching.”

Winners in 2024 included The Water and Environmental Student Association (WESA), Chi Epsilon (XE) and Engineers Without Borders (EWB). The organizations were each awarded $1,872 to fuel their initiatives. Why $1,872? It’s a nod to history — Auburn’s Civil and Environmental Engineering Program began in 1872.

WESA used the award to fund an outreach program targeting middle-schoolers featuring a water tower design competition. XE utilized the funds for their spring 2025 initiation, a faculty honor award, and to help its members prepare for the Fundamentals of Engineering exam. EWB supported its Guatemala team with materials for constructing a water distribution system.

The Alumni Board has set a goal of raising $5,000 to support the student pitch competition, which the CEE Department has committed to matching up to $5,000. For more information about donation,s visit The Student Pitch support website.
