Four artificial intelligence experts from industry and academia will offer deeper insight into the emerging technology and its best practices through a lecture series, presented by Auburn University’s AI@AU initiative.
The “Spring 2025 AI@AU Forum” will be March 7, March 14, April 11 and April 25 (all Fridays at 10 a.m.) – in Lowder Hall, Room 127 or can be viewed live via Zoom (https://auburn.zoom.us/j/81706339239). Recorded lectures can be viewed here: https://eng.auburn.edu/ai-au/forum#Spring-2025-forum.
Lectures are as follows:
- March 7: Customer Growth & Engagement Through AI: Scott Finney, CEO, Creating Value LLC
- March 21: LLM-Based Optimizers: Reasoning via Elitism: Shuvayan Brahmachary, AI researcher, Shell Technology Center Bengaluru
- April 11: AI - Pick Two: Fast, Cheap or Good?: Chad Jenkins, professor of robotics, professor of electrical engineering and computer science, University of Michigan
- April 25: AI for Drug Discovery: Sidi Chen, associate professor, Departments of Genetics and of Neurosurgery, Yale School of Medicine, Yale University
“AI has become one of the most useful tools in the world. How can we use it most effectively? What dangers exist?” said Gerry Dozier, the Charles D. McCrary Eminent Chair Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering (CSSE) and the AI@AU technical lead.
“This semester’s AI speaker series will feature a wide range of topics from leading experts. It will provide an opportunity for students and faculty to be introduced to a number of high impact AI applications in a variety of industries as well as their potential to shape the future. The AI speaker series also provides a unique opportunity for our university community to learn more about cutting-edge AI research, innovative applications and ethical considerations.”
The AI@AU initiative was founded in 2022 and spearheaded the growth of AI research and education at Auburn. Since its creation, AI@AU has assembled a university-wide multi-disciplinary faculty team to expand AI research and education, developed a computational infrastructure for AI research and education, developed Auburn’s faculty infrastructure for AI research and education, and explored university-wide educational innovations in AI.
In Fall 2024, CSSE launched three AI programs: a master's degree, a graduate certificate and an undergraduate certificate in AI engineering. These programs equip students with essential AI skills to meet the growing demand in various sectors such as business, defense, education, government, and healthcare. The master's program includes core courses in AI, machine learning, and data mining, along with technical electives. The graduate certificate is designed for professionals seeking greater skills in AI technologies.
“The rapid growth of artificial intelligence education and research at Auburn University underscores our commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements,” said CSSE Chair and AI@AU Administrative Lead Hari Narayanan. “Artificial intelligence is revolutionizing industries, driving innovation, and solving complex problems across various sectors. By offering AI educational programming such as inviting national and international AI leaders to share their expertise with the campus community, we equip our students and faculty with the critical skills and knowledge needed to thrive in this dynamic field. Investing in AI research, education, and learning opportunities such as the AI@AU Forum ensures that we remain a hub of innovation and excellence.”
