The American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) student chapter at Auburn University becomes the first AREMA student chapter in Alabama and the 26th nationwide.
At the 104th Transportation Research Board conference, Auburn students met with the AREMA exhibition stand and worked with officers to increase participation on Auburn’s campus. After the conference, the Auburn AREMA student chapter was approved with help from NsongErnest Asiedu, the first student president, and facilitators Ernest Tufuor, assistant research professor with the Auburn University Transportation Research Institute and Huaguo Zhou, the Elton Z. and Lois G. Huff Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
For its first year as a chapter, Auburn AREMA plans to expand membership, grow student and academic involvement and engage in networking opportunities. Other initiatives include field visits with The Alabama Department of Transportation and expanding presence through active participation in conferences, presentations and mentorship programs.
As the program grows, Auburn AREMA encourages other faculty and students to participate and propose activities and initiatives for growth toward the goal of advancing the industry and innovating a future. Media Contact: , orb0015@auburn.edu,
