The INFORMS (Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences) Student Chapter at Auburn University was recently recognized with a national Student Chapter Annual Award for 2021. The purpose of the Student Chapter Annual Awards is to recognize the achievements of student chapters and to motivate them to perform well.

Auburn, along with 10 other universities including Iowa State University and the University of Arkansas, won the Cum laude division of the award.

“The national professional society, INFORMS, recognizes a few of the student chapters every year, based on the scope and quality of chapters’ activities and service to the profession,” said chapter advisor Aleksandr Vinel, associate professor for the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. “While 2021 was a challenging year for all student organizations, AU INFORMS student chapter officers did an excellent job trying to do what they could to help keep the AU operations research and management science community going.”

The INFORMS Student Chapter at Auburn University promotes interest in the fields of operations research, management science and advanced analytics. It fosters a sense of community among students in these disciplines and promotes the exchange of ideas, mentoring for students and connections between students and professionals in industry and academia.
