Anton Schindler, Mountain Spirit Professor of structural engineering and Highway Research Center director, has been awarded the 2021 American Concrete Institute (ACI) Delmar L. Bloem Distinguished Service Award for outstanding leadership performed by Schindler to ACI’s Technical Committee 237.
Schindler will receive the award March 31 during the virtual ACI Spring 2021 Concrete Convention and Exposition.
Founded in 1904, ACI is one of the world’s leading technical and educational organizations in the field of concrete. The organization has more than 100 chapters, 243 student chapters and 30,000 members spanning more than 120 countries. It serves with an overall goal of finding the best methods to complete concrete work and spreading that knowledge worldwide.
“I am very honored to receive this award from the American Concrete Institute for serving a six-year term as chair of ACI Technical Committee 237 that covers self-consolidating concrete,” Schindler said. “This award would not have been possible without the valuable contributions of many of my colleagues that are members of ACI Technical Committee 237 because they have helped me develop high-quality technical sessions and a new committee report that will help our industry implement self-consolidating concrete.”
Schindler’s research focuses on early-age behavior of concrete structures, high-performance concrete, concrete durability, computer-based modeling of concrete behavior and concrete production, testing and properties. He has won more than 10 awards since coming to Auburn in 2002, including the Auburn Civil Engineering Outstanding Faculty Member Award and the William F. Walker Merit Teaching Award.
“Anton is one of the very top national experts in the area of concrete materials and structures,” said Andrzej Nowak, chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. “He is widely recognized as a leader in advanced research on high performance concrete. We are proud of having this national-caliber expert in our department. He adds significantly to the national reputation of Auburn University.”
