Three Auburn engineers featured in cybersecurity episode of ‘Reinventing School’

Three Auburn engineers were recently featured on a new episode of “Reinventing School,” a web series that examines the future of education as schools have increasingly shifted to digital platforms in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The episode, titled “Cyberattack!,” explored the ways in which a giant cyberattack could disrupt industry and schools.
Frank Cilluffo, director of Auburn University’s McCrary Institute for Cyber and Critical Infrastructure Security, was a guest alongside Suzanne Spaulding and Mark Montgomery. All three guests are affiliated with the Cyberspace Solarium Commission, which was established by Congress in 2018 to "develop a consensus on a strategic approach to defending the United States in cyberspace against cyberattacks of significant consequences."
The commission presented a report in March that proposes a strategy of layered cyber deterrence, consisting of more than 80 recommendations to implement the strategy.
In addition to the perspective presented from Cilluffo and his colleagues, the episode also highlighted the observations of two Auburn students advancing in the cybersecurity field, software engineering senior Charlie Harper and computer science sophomore Vicki McLendon. Harper is president of Auburn’s Ethical Hacking Club, of which McLendon is also a member. The club is advised by Daniel Tauritz, associate professor and interim director of the Auburn Cyber Research Center.
“Reinventing School” is hosted and produced by Howard Blumenthal, who also created and produced the PBS television series “Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?”
