Alabama Public Television’s “Spotlight on Agriculture” documentary series recently devoted an entire hour-long episode to a unique Auburn engineering project that continues to make headlines across the country.

In March, a team of Auburn Engineering professors and alumni raced against the clock to develop a device that could mitigate potential ventilator shortages as the nation battled the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dubbed the RE-InVENT, the innovative unit—which essentially converts a standard CPAP machine into an emergency ventilator—has successfully passed multiple live animal tests, and is currently being produced by Huntsville-based IS4S, an integrated systems solutions company and defense contractor that frequently partners with Auburn University's Samuel Ginn College of Engineering.

"Being featured on 'Spotlight on Agriculture' was a great opportunity to get to discuss the RE-InVENT effort through a statewide medium such as the Alabama Public Television," said assistant mechanical engineering professor Michael Zabala, who helped lead the RE-InVENT project. "It allowed the team to not only describe the project, but also to promote Auburn University and the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering in particular.”
