A pair of civil engineering alumni — Jeff Stone and Dale York — were recently honored with emeritus member status on the Civil Engineering Advisory Board.

Stone received his bachelor’s in civil engineering from the university in 1979 and is currently the executive vice president of Brasfield & Gorrie. He is the past chairman of the Auburn University Foundation, as well as the Auburn Alumni Engineering Council. He received the Outstanding Alumnus Award in Civil Engineering in 2005, the Distinguished Auburn Engineer Award in 2012 and was inducted into the State of Alabama Engineering Hall of Fame in 2014. In 2019, Stone received the 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Auburn Alumni Association, of which he is a life member. He previously served as chairman of the Auburn University Foundation as well as the Auburn Alumni Engineering Council and is a member of the Engineering Keystone Society. Stone currently sits on the boards of Children’s Harbor, Omicron Delta Kappa Foundation and serves as captain of the Monday Morning Quarterback Club of Birmingham.

York, who received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering in 1976 and 1978, respectively, is the immediate past president and senior principle of LBYD Inc. With more than 30 years of experience in structural engineering, he completed more than 650 projects throughout the Southeast and is a registered professional engineer in Alabama and 14 other states. York has served on many engineering councils and organizations, holding a variety of leadership positions as well. He is a past chairman, vice chairman and treasurer of the Auburn Alumni Engineering Council. In 2004, he was recognized as Engineer of the Year by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Alabama and proclaimed an ACEC Fellow in 2010. York was inducted in the State of Alabama Engineering Hall of Fame in 2013 and was named a Distinguished Auburn Engineer in 2019.

These two individuals follow the board’s first emeritus member, David Dixon, ’76. After graduating from Auburn, Dixon earned his master’s in the same discipline from Stanford University in 1977, and he then went to work for Brasfield & Gorrie. During his 28-year career there, he worked his way up to the position of vice president of the Office and Retail Division and served as a member of the board of directors.
