Vic Nelson, professor emeritus of electrical and computer engineering, was inducted into the University of Kentucky Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday, Sept. 13.

Long before his 41-year tenure at Auburn University, Nelson was a star distance runner at Kentucky from 1968-71, competing in cross country and both indoor and outdoor track. During his athletic career at Kentucky, he won seven SEC individual championships and was named the 1971 UK Athlete of the Year.

Nelson and the other honorees were inducted during a private ceremony Friday and then honored at the football game between Kentucky and Florida on Saturday.

Nelson retired from Auburn earlier this year after more than four decades on the electrical and computer engineering faculty. He began his career at Auburn as an assistant professor in 1978, advancing to full professor and assistant department chair. Nelson was recognized with numerous college and university-level teaching awards during his time at Auburn and was named the 2005 Wireless Educator of the Year by the Global Wireless Education Consortium.
