Robert Jackson, professor of mechanical engineering, has been named a fellow of the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers.

Jackson joins an elite group of 179 engineers and scientists from around the world to achieve fellow status in STLE, which has more than 13,000 members worldwide. STLE is the world’s foremost organization dedicated to the research of friction, wear and lubrication as well as the broader science of interacting surfaces in relative motion.

STLE members are elevated to fellow status if they have made a significant impact on the field of tribology and lubrication engineering.

“This is a significant honor for Rob and is a testament to the importance of his research and educational contributions in tribology and lubrication science,” said Jeff Suhling, chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. “In addition to his leading research in this area, Rob also spearheaded the creation of Auburn’s tribology minor – the first program of its kind in the United States. We are thankful for his work in this area and look forward to his continued contributions benefiting Auburn and the field of tribology.”

In addition to being named a fellow, Jackson was also appointed to STLE’s board of directors.

A three-time graduate of Georgia Tech, Jackson joined the Auburn Engineering faculty in 2004 after completing his doctoral studies.
