Course Objectives

This course explores the basic concepts around bitcoin—the problems of the current monetary system, the solutions that bitcoin offers, the way bitcoin works, bitcoin vs. other cryptocurrencies, bitcoin mining and energy, investment principles, social implications, and extensions and applications. The course structure uses lectures, readings, discussion, and independent explorations. Students choose an independent project that aligns with their interests.

Who Can Take It

"Understanding Bitcoin" is open to any student in any major. While there is a technical component to the course, it is presented in a way that is accessible to non-technical majors. THe course is being offered in Spring 2025.
