Research Program

Dr. Kirkici’s research activities span from lasers and electro-optics to dielectrics and electrical insulation in harsh environments of aerospace and vacuum-like space conditions. She has contributed significantly in the studies of high frequency (in kHz range) breakdown in partial vacuum (aerospace environment) and understanding surface flashover characteristics of novel dielectrics (DLC, polycrystalline diamond, and nano-dielectrics) in a vacuum or partial vacuum. Furthermore, she has studied the effects of electromagnetic pulsed field on bio-dielectric materials. Her research group also has demonstrated that carbon nanotubes can be used in partial pressure environment as cold cathode materials in pulsed power plasma switches. She has made notable contributions in the technical field of laser beam propagation and design of beam shaping optical systems.
