Auburn University 2017 alumna Jasmyne Brown fell in love with Auburn’s campus during visits for cheer competitions in middle school and high school. Her aunt and godmother was an Auburn engineering graduate and she knew it was where she belonged.

“Although she passed away when I was younger, she made a major impact on my life,” Brown shared. “I always looked up to her and wanted to follow in her footsteps at Auburn University.”

After taking a career exploration class at Auburn, industrial engineering was at the top of her list. After learning more about the program, Brown realized it could combine engineering, business, and her passion for helping others through healthcare.

Brown is currently a management engineer at Emory Healthcare in Atlanta, Ga., while also working to obtain a Master of Business Administration through Troy University.

“I enjoy being able to combine my passion for helping others with my love for process improvement and industrial engineering,” she said.

As a student at Auburn, Brown was a Cupola Engineering Ambassador, a member of the Academic Excellence Program and a mentee for 100+ Women Strong. She was also a member of the Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and an Auburn University athletic recruiter. In 2015, Brown served as executive director for the “All In, All Pink” breast cancer awareness event on campus.

She is now a mentor for 100+ Women Strong.

“As a student, I benefited from having a 100+ Women Strong mentor,” she said. “My mentor allowed me to come to her company, observe her in her leadership role, and have conversations with various women engineers at the company. Because I benefited from the program, I felt the need to give back to others as well.”

Brown said the Auburn University Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering prepared her well for her current career.

“I believe that ISE fostered my process improvement and problem-solving skills,” she said. “The program opened up my viewpoint to different ways to analyze data, processes and systems.”
