Mitchell Price, senior in software engineering, has been named the Outstanding Software Engineering Student of 2017. He fell in love with programming in high school and never looked back.
“I went to South Fork High School, which is in South Florida, but I live in Georgia now. My first exposure to computer science/software engineering was in my senior year of high school, when I had to do some programming for a math class and fell in love with it. I decided to go with a software engineering major over computer science, because it really seemed focused on the process and methodology needed to build reliable, large-scale projects, which I feel is an extremely important part of the curriculum. The best decision I made at Auburn, which I would recommend for anyone in computer science/software engineering, was to get involved with programming related student organizations, such as the Association for Computing Machinery and Auburn's programming team, both of which are great opportunities to get experience outside of the classroom. I am extremely honored and humbled by this recognition, and I hope that my involvement both inside and outside the classroom bettered my classmates’ experience. After graduation, I hope to work at Google, but I'm also exploring other options as well.”
