Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Cybersecurity
The Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering (CSSE), situated within the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor level to start on January 1, 2026. Applicants must have the potential to develop a vigorous externally funded research program and a commitment to excellence in research and teaching.
Minimum qualifications are a bachelor’s or master’s degree as well as the PhD degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related discipline. PhD must be completed by the start of the appointment. Prior experience as faculty, as postdoctoral scholar, in industry or in government, and US citizenship are beneficial.
The selected candidate will be expected to both develop an independent extramurally funded research program in Cybersecurity and collaborate in research with faculty and staff affiliated with the Center for AI and Cybersecurity Engineering (https://eng.auburn.edu/au-caice/), Auburn University Applied Research Institute (https://eng.auburn.edu/auari/), and McCrary Institute for Cyber and Critical Infrastructure Security (http://mccrary.auburn.edu).
In addition to developing new undergraduate/graduate courses related to Cybersecurity, they should be able to teach any of the required courses in Auburn’s Master of Science in Cybersecurity Engineering degree program (https://eng.auburn.edu/program/master-of-science-cybersecurity-engineering.html) — in particular, they will be expected to teach one or more of these courses: Cybersecurity Threats & Countermeasures, Software Reverse Engineering, and Computer & Network Security. This crucial faculty role will directly contribute to the department’s Cybersecurity research and education programs, which hold three NSA/DHS designations as Centers of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Research, Cyber Defense Education, and Cyber Operations.
CSSE is the highest ranked computer science department in Alabama, ranked 15th among departments in the 10-state southeastern region, and nationwide 40th among departments at public universities and among the top 12% of all departments according to the latest US News and World Report rankings. It was one of the first computer science departments in the country to offer an ABET-accredited undergraduate degree in software engineering. The department currently has a diverse, collegial, and international tenure track, teaching, and research faculty of almost forty, who support a dynamic research enterprise and strong undergraduate and graduate programs (MS in CSSE, MS in Artificial Intelligence Engineering, MS in Cybersecurity Engineering, MS in Data Science & Engineering, and PhD in CSSE). Current student enrollment is 1,200+ undergraduate and 240+ graduate (including 120+ PhD) students.
