Auburn alumni inducted into the State of Alabama Engineering Hall of Fame were: (L-R) Tim McCartney, '80 civil engineering, who was selected for the Class of 2023 but was unable to attend last year's ceremony; Nicole Faulk, '96 and '99 mechanical engineering; Maj. Gen. James Livingston, '62 civil engineering; and Charlie Miller, '80 civil engineering.

The State of Alabama Engineering Hall of Fame inducted nine individuals — including four Auburn University alumni — and one corporation during a ceremony Saturday at The Westin Huntsville.

AUTRI partners with U.S. Army Corp of Engineers' ERDC to improve safety
AUTRI has received a $1.4 million subcontract from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Midwest Roadside Safety Facility to collaborate with MwRSF and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Engineer Research and Development Center to improve the safety and efficiency of ECPs to Department of Defense facilities.

Nearly 1,000 transportation professionals gathered in Birmingham on February 6-7 to explore cutting-edge technologies to enhance the transportation industry. Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey gave a speech about the importance of top-notch infrastructure being integral to the state’s success.
Auburn hosts 67th annual Alabama Transportation Conference
The two-day Alabama Transportation Conference (ATC) had a significant Auburn Family feel to it. Not only did the Auburn University Transportation Research Institute (AUTRI) host the conference, but Auburn faculty opened the conference, presided over the luncheons, gave presentations and closed the program.

Auburn prepares to host 67th Annual Alabama Transportation Conference
As a leader in transportation research and workforce development, Auburn University's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is once again at the forefront, with eight faculty members serving on the 67th Annual Alabama Transportation Conference (ATC) Program Committee. The ATC Program Committee is chaired by Anton Schindler, the Mountain Spirit Professor of Civil and Environmental engineering and director of the Auburn University Highway Research Center.

Auburn took home hardware by winning second place in the 2024 Traffic Control Device (TCD) Student Challenge. Auburn’s second-place team consisted of team leader Fangjian Yang, Ernest Nsong Asiedu, Tonghui Li and Alex Zhao. They are members of the Auburn Student Institute of Transportation Engineers, coordinated by Huaguo Zhou, Elton Z. and Lois G. Huff professor in civil engineering.  Auburn graduate research assistants Md Mahmud Hossain and Mohammad Reza Abbaszadeh Lima also won the Best Graduate Student Poster from the TRB Standing Committee on Performance Effects of Geometric Design.

The breadth and depth of Auburn University’s Transportation Research Institute (AUTRI) faculty, staff and students were on display at the 103rd annual Transportation Research Board (TRB) conference held Jan. 7-11 in Washington, D.C.
