What you need to know about the Fall 2021 Engineering Career Fairs

The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering will host three career fairs in two modalities for fall 2021. 

BEFORE ALL FAIRS

  1. Sign up for Career Fair+ at CareerFairPlus.com or download the app in the App Store or Google Play Store. Select STUDENT / CANDIDATE.
  2. Search for and select Auburn University
  3. Select the fair you'd like to view

  4. Click Meetings  I  Some versions of the app may say Virtual Appointments
  5. Create an account. Make sure to use your Auburn University email address, or you will not be able to access the fair.
  6. Complete your profile.  Make sure to attach your most updated resume to your CF+ profile in a PDF file with your name in the file name (i.e. AubieAnderson - Resume).

  7. Check out employers attending the fair and add your top companies to your favorites list!

PRO TIPS

  • Make a cheat sheet about each company you'd like to speak with so you can be well informed when approaching recruiters. Include questions you'd like to ask. Brainstorm your questions with these articles: Indeed.com and TheMuse.com
  • Prepare and practice your 1 minute personal introduction
  • Plan to dress for success in business professional attire. Access the AU Career Closet in Mary Martin Hall by scheduling an appointment in Handshake.

BEFORE + DURING THE IN-PERSON FAIRS

  1. When viewing your favorite employers on Career Fair+, book your spot in your favorite employers Resume Drop! This allows employers to electronically access the digital resume on your Career Fair+ profile. You'll find the "Resume Drop" on each employer page. Click on it and select "Book My Spot Now." This helps you get your resume in front of employers multiple times and if for any reason you are not able to drop by their table at the fair - they still know you are interested!
  2. Print hard copies of your resume to provide when meeting employers face-to-face.
  3. Check in at the tent outside of Brown Kopel on September 15th! We'll provide you a name tag and a place to check your bag.

PRO TIPS

  • Bring a pen + paper, ~20 copies of your resume, and a folder or portfolio so you can easily make notes after your conversations.
  • Check out the interactive fair map on Career Fair+ to see where company tables are located. Make a game plan for the order in which you plan to approach companies.
  • Consider approaching all types of companies even if you don't recognize the brand!
  • Thank recruiters for attending the career fair, discuss any next steps, and request their contact information so you can follow up!

COVID CONSIDERATIONS I  Employers have received messaging from the Engineering Career Development & Corporate Relations Office to refrain from physical contact. No handshakes, fist bumps, or high fives! If it feels awkward not to make a physical gesture, offer a friendly wave and hand recruiters your resume.

BEFORE + DURING THE VIRTUAL FAIR

  1. Starting September 13, access your Career Fair+ account and reserve meetings with the employers you want to speak to. Meetings are in 10-minute increments. The reservation window will remain open through September 23. However, some employer meeting schedules will fill up quickly!
  2. Write down your meeting times and add them to your calendar!
  3. On the day of the event, log into your account at CAREERFAIRPLUS.COM. Locate the employer you are scheduled to meet with and enter the meeting at your scheduled time. Make sure your video is on. "Knock" to let the recruiter know you are waiting. The recruiter will see a preview of your camera - and let you in or ask you to wait until they're ready for you.

PRO TIPS

  • Plan to attend your meetings on a desktop or laptop, not on your phone. Make sure to use Chrome or Safari browsers.
  • Get to a quiet space and remove distractions. Keep your phone on hand for the employer to call if there are technical difficulties with video.
  • Remove background noise and be mindful of lighting and background images.
  • Thank recruiters for speaking with you, discuss any next steps, and request their contact information so you can follow up!
