Program Criteria and Student Responsibilities

The Center for Inclusive Engineering Excellence is an engineering support program focused on academics support, professional development, and community.

  • Student must consistently and actively participate in at least 6 different documented center activities and center supported programming per semester, and not be excused from any more than 3 Signature Student Events (Orientation, Kick-off, Leadership Conference, Closing Ceremony, Career Fair Preview Night, and Industry Super Bowl); Collaborative Learning Sessions, Affinity Group Meetings; Mock Interview Clinics; Seminars; Workshops; and Experiential Learning Experiences. All absences must be excused by center staff.
  • Student must actively participate in additional forums, meetings, and sessions that are occasionally scheduled by the Office. Student must actively participate in their scheduled CIEE activities and programs promptly and with a positive attitude of full cooperation.

The Center for Inclusive Engineering Excellence has competitive scholarship opportunities for center students who meet the requirements for center participation given the availability of funds. Scholarships can be awarded after the student completes one semester of consistent and active participation in the center. The scholarship requirements are as follows:

  • Student must be enrolled in a curriculum in the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering. The student must earn credits for a full course load (12 semester credits or more). The courses must be course requirements for your declared Samuel Ginn College of Engineering degree. Student must maintain a term and cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.00 to receive a scholarship.
  • Student must complete an AUSOM application.
  • The Alabama Power Company expects that all students who accept center scholarship funds would give serious consideration to co-op/internship and permanent employment opportunities offered by their company.
  • Preference is given to students who demonstrate a commitment to service and leadership.
