The college provides funding through the Auburn University Engineering Experiment
Station to support research, development, and new faculty research start-up packages.
This funding also is used to help the college, departments and investigators with
purchasing, budget and accounting services; to foster interdisciplinary multi-investigator
research through center development and support; to manage and develop space to
meet the current and future needs of the college; and to encourage intellectual
property creation and dissemination.
The College actively seeks to expand scientific and engineering knowledge through innovative research and creative partnerships involving academia, industry, foundations, and government. There are several ways to support research efforts in the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering:
Sponsored Research
One way to establish a sponsored research relationship is to enter into a research contract. A corporation, foundation or agency may find that a research contract is the most appropriate vehicle of interaction in cases where a specific statement of work will be performed, usually with required deliverables (such as a written report) or the granting of intellectual property usage rights.
The College of Engineering Business Office works with Auburn University's Office of Sponsored Programs to coordinate arrangements between Auburn and potential partners. Research contract budgets typically require reimbursement of direct costs, such as salaries and materials, as well as associated indirect costs (based on an approved proportion of direct costs as determined by the federal government).
Each contract designates an Auburn University project director and a research partner technical liaison.

Gifts
Another way to support research efforts in the College of Engineering is through gifts. Those interested in establishing ties with faculty and students in a particular area of expertise can make a gift or donation to support basic research within that research discipline. Donations to the Auburn University Foundation can also be designated to a particular department, center, laboratory, faculty member or technical area, or to support undergraduate scholarships or graduate fellowships in a related academic program.
