The focus of the Center for Innovations in Mobile Pervasive Agile Computing Technologies (IMPACT) is on packaging and reliability of chips, and creating "smart" software that can plug and play in any environment.

More than $1.5 million in research funds have been designated for IMPACT projects. Fifteen faculty members from the College of Engineering participate in the center. In addition, much assistance is drawn from the 20 graduate and undergraduate students who conduct research.

IMPACT provides an important benefit to the East Alabama community. "Successful high-tech research centers are incubators for new ideas and help attract other companies into the region that share the same goals. It is no secret that when top engineers and scientists can share or release their creative energy, prosperity is near, " says Ralph Zee, associate dean of research with AU's College of Engineering.
