Initiated by a $25 million gift to the College of Engineering by Samuel L. Ginn, the Departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and Computer Science and Software Engineering (CSSE) have developed, and have obtained approval for, a new undergraduate program leading to the Bachelor of Wireless Engineering degree.
There are two tracks in this program, one concentrating on the design of hardware and the other on the design of software for wireless devices and networks. This new program is one of the first of its kind in the United States. The official starting date for this program is the Fall Semester of 2002.
The mission statement of the Wireless Engineering Research and Education Center (WEREC) states:
The mission of the Wireless Engineering Research and Education Center is to develop and
maintain a wireless engineering curriculum and research program that will drive Auburn
University to excel in the theoretical and practical aspects of wireless technologies that
are dramatically changing the world we live in and the way humans and machines communicate.
