Preform Mapping Research
A technique to map the internal preform structure of fiber composites, based
on physical serial sectioning of the composite material. Image analysis and manual
yarn recognition are used to identify yarns in each section. The preform is mapped
in 3-D space. Data regarding average yarn orientation is computed automatically,
and matrix pocket locations are determined.
