PhD in Integrated Textile and Apparel Science

The Ph.D. program in Integrated Textile and Apparel Science is jointly administered by the Department of Polymer and Fiber Engineering and the Department of Consumer Affairs.

The program offers a full range of study and research in multi-disciplinary areas which include fibers, polymers, yarns, fabrics, finishes, fiber products, and fibrous composites. The Department of Polymer and Fiber Engineering offers depth in the engineering, technology and resource utilization of polymers and fibers, while programs in consumer affairs include design, analysis, product evaluation, merchandising and end-use performance of textiles.

Building upon a small core of required courses enables the student to design a program to his or her individual interests. Core courses focus on fiber/polymer structure and properties, fabric structures and properties, research methods, dyeing and finishing, advances in textile composites, and thesis and research.

Suggested minor or supporting course areas include materials engineering, computer science, mechanical engineering, chemistry, economics, statistics, marketing and communications.

Assistantships are awarded by individual faculty from their sponsored research grants. For availability, contact faculty members directly.
