In order to complement existing expertise, the department will need two new faculty positions, one senior and one junior. The senior faculty member would, ideally, be a person with a strong research and teaching program in polymer engineering or science who would be expected to take leadership in the Department's polymer-related protective materials efforts, as well as the polymer engineering degree track. The senior faculty member would be expected to have a track record of generating significant external funding from sources such as NSF, DoD, or DoE. A minimum of $75k in start up funding will be required.
The junior faculty position would, ideally, be occupied by someone with the Ph.D. in polymer chemistry, polymer engineering, materials science/engineering or chemical engineering. The junior faculty member will be expected to develop a solid, externally funded research program within his/her area of expertise, direct graduate students, and teach courses in the polymer track. A minimum of $25k in start up funding is desirable.
