Overview

Academic ProgramsEstablished in 1965, Auburn University's nationally accredited materials engineering curriculum currently offers four degrees: Bachelor of Science (B.S.), materials engineering; Master of Science (M.S.), materials engineering (thesis-based, on-campus resident); Master of Materials Engineering (M.Mtl.E.) (non-thesis, graduate outreach); and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), materials engineering.

Courses are designed to offer students a broad foundation in chemistry, physics and mathematics. Through coursework, students obtain a foundation in the major areas of materials science and classes of engineering materials. Undergraduate students may design alternative cross-disciplinary sequences, which must be coordinated and approved by the faculty.
