During the Summer of 2003 the Department of Mechanical Engineering developed a strategic plan to assist in the attainment of departmental goals and long-term objectives. This plan addressed the state of the department (as of July 2003), presented a SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) for the department and outlined areas for current and future research focus.
Vision of Mechanical Engineering
"The vision of the Department of Mechanical Engineering is to be the strongest
contributor to the College of Engineering's vision of becoming a top ten engineering
program by employing a system of continuous quality improvement to move to top
ten national status while being recognized by its constituents as the dominant
engineering program in the state."
Mission of Mechanical Engineering
"Educate students to become professionals who are prepared to enter practice,
and to engage in advanced and lifelong learning, in the profession of Mechanical
Engineering."
