Computer Systems (architecture, embedded systems) is currently an important area of research. Research in Computer systems requires the brightest and most diverse group of people to participate. Recognizing the potential of this new field of study,National Science Foundation is providing up to $10,000 per year in scholarships to outstanding students. This scholarship can be awarded in addition to a Graduate Assistant position. The mission of the program is to attract outstanding US citizens and/or permanent residents to pursue advanced study, preferably PhD degree, in this area. Women and minorities are especially encouraged to apply.

The amount of stipend is dependent on the financial need of individual students, and is not to exceed $10,000 per year. Each student is required to prove the financial need by filing the FAFSA form (http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/FOTWWebApp/complete013.jsp).

The requirements of application for a fellowship include:

  • US citizen, national, or permanent residence status
  • Seniors or master-degree students in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, software engineering, or a closely related field
  • Are interested in pursuing a MS/PhD degree in Computer Systems
  • Have excellent academic performance, with a minimum GPA > 3.2 (preferably 3.5)
  • GRE scores Verbal and Quantitative > 1150
  • Have financial need

Application materials include:

  1. STEM Scholarship application form (download word form here)
  2. On-line Auburn University graduate program application for graduate study in Computer Science and Software Engineering (on-campus option)
  3. Official college transcript(s)
  4. Official GRE general test scores
  5. One page research interest statement (include career interests)
  6. Resume
  7. 3 letters of recommendation
  8. A proof of financial need FAFSA form

Among the above materials, items 1, 5 and 6 must be first sent immediately through email to Dr. Sanjeev Baskiyar baskiyar@eng.auburn.edu directly. Item 2 must be filed on-line. Items 3 and 4 must be sent to Auburn University Graduate School. Items 5, 6, and 7 must be sent to the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering. Item 8 should be filed on-line at the Department of Education FAFSA site. If you have already applied, please only submit item 1 to Dr. Sanjeev Baskiyar. Applications for the scholarships will be processed year round. However, an application normally would require 3-5 months to be processed. You are encouraged to communicate with Dr. Sanjeev Baskiyar about the availability and details of the scholarship.
