CSSE Graduate Research Tuition Fellowship (GRTF) Policy

GRTF application is accepted around the year but must be received one month before a new semester starts.

All continuing GRTF recipients must file a new application in April each year.

PROCEDURE:

  1. Students must initiate the process, i.e. fill up an application form and give the form to advisor.
  2. Advisor must verify correctness of application information, add his/her recommendation regarding student qualification (see items 5 & 7 below), calculate the total score, sign, and give the application to the GPO.
  3. 3. GPO will rank and pick students to fill all available slots.

If a student is currently not funded, he/she will be considered only if his/her advisor guarantees GRA funding for the next two terms.

The following meritorious points will be used in the competition ranking:

  1. Seniority in the grad program
    • 10 points if masters 14 points if PhD pre-qual
    • 16 points if PhD post-qual & pre-general
    • 18 points if PhD post-general
  2. Number, status and type of publications while at Auburn:
    12* (# peer-reviewed journal/magazine/book-chapter /edited-collection pubs in-print/accepted)
    +
    10* (# peer-reviewed journal/magazine/book-chapter /edited-collection pubs submitted)
    +
    8* (# peer-reviewed conference/workshop/symposium etc. pubs in print/accepted)
    +
    6* (# peer-reviewed conference/workshop/symposium etc. pubs submitted)
    +
    4* (# CSSE Tech Reports or any other not-peer-reviewed pubs in-print/accepted)

    2* (# CSSE Tech Reports or any other not-peer-reviewed pubs submitted)
  3. 10* (# of submitted proposals students help write or students' work helped generate)
  4. Auburn GPA:
    (Auburn Graduate GPA - 3.0) * 10
  5. New student credit
    10 points if advisor attests to the promising nature of student
  6. Current highest degree held
    4 points: BS or equivalent
    8 points: MS or equivalent
    12 points: PhD or equivalent
  7. Advisor's recommendation
    poor (-10 points)
    below average (-5 points)
    average (0 points)
    above average (5 points)
    excellent (10 points)
  8. Advisor's seniority
    5 points if advisor is untenured
  9. GPO, in consultation with the graduate committee and the advisors, may provide GRTF slots for specifically recruited students from outside Auburn.

Total score: sum of the 9 (1-9) subscores.
If there is a tie at the cut-off point, GPO will decide.
