Department Overview
The Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering (CSSE) has a vision
to ultimately move into the top tier of universities. This may be less difficult
for our software engineering program than for our computer science program since
there are currently fewer software engineering programs in the US. To determine
the resources needed to position CSSE among the top tier schools, we have benchmarked
our department against those that are currently ranked in the top 20 by US News and World Reports based on 2002 data. We also benchmarked CSSE against the known software engineering
programs in the US. Our planning begins with delineating our strengths, weaknesses,
opportunities and threats. This is followed by a statement of our future research
focus areas and needs for program advancement. Our plan concludes with a statement
of our programmatic objectives.
