Equipment Needs

Currently the major pieces of equipment necessary for the existing faculty are available. Research funds and startup equipment grants provided by the University and the College of Engineering have positioned the department well for the work that is underway. As new research opportunities are identified and as new faculty are hired, needs for major equipment items are likely to arise. Gift money from alumni is a primary source of funding for such purchases. A major concern is funding for equipment maintenance and repair. Discretionary funds such as funds from gifts are routinely needed because repair and maintenance expenditures are very difficult to fund from research contracts.
