The Department of Chemical Engineering is committed to fostering the academic achievement and personal development of its students. To carry out that commitment, the department continuously gathers information about the effectiveness of its academic programs and about the progress of its students toward education goals. This information is used to monitor program effectiveness, to recognize education trends and opportunities, and to develop a sound, factual basis for adademic planning. These efforts are coordinated by the Undergraduate Program Committee (UPC) and the Curriculum and Accreditation Action and Planning Committee (CAPAC).
Each student in the department is expected to participate in the department's assessment efforts. These activities may include contribution of student work for portfolios, achievement and proficiency exams, surveys, interviews and other evaluation forms.
The department conducts a Sophomore Survey during the sophomore year in CHEN 2100 to learn information about students newly joining the department. This survey focuses provides important information about why students are selecting chamical engineering as a major as well as helping the department better understand the academic needs and concerns of our students. Please visit the following page to locate the surveys used during the sophomore survey.
Near the end of each semester the department conducts Student End Of Course Surveys. These online surveys collect information about the effectiveness of each of our courses in meeting student expectations as well as departmental expectations. As these surveys are conducted anonymously, we encourage students to provide candid and honest responses. Surveys are only available currently for required (non-technical elective) courses.
Please visit the following page to locate the survey for the courses you are currently taking.
Near graduatation, the Department Chair will schedule a Senior Exit Interview with members of the senior class. This interview allows the chair and students the opportunity to reflect on their entire experience at Auburn and to make constructive observations. The interview also includes completing three senior surveys that focus attention on different aspects of the academic experience. Please visit the following page to locate the surveys used during the senior exit interview.
