Ph.D. Curriculum

The Graduate School specifies the general Ph.D. curriculum for all doctoral candidates at Auburn University.

  • A minimum of 30 semester hours of graded (A,B,C) graduate course work(6000 level or above).
  • An additional 30 semester hours of:
    • Ungraded courses (S-U options) such as directed reading, independent study,
    • Research and Dissertation (CHEN 8990) (a minimum of 10 hours)
  • During any one semester, the number of hours of Research and Dissertation should reflect the amount of time spent on the dissertation and the degree to which university resources are being utilized (1 to 16 hours).
  • There is no minor required by the Graduate School.  This is a departmental decision.
