The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering at Auburn University invites applications
for the position of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in the Department of Chemical
Engineering. This tenure track appointment is to become effective in Fall 2008.
The department seeks outstanding candidates who have a Ph.D. in chemical engineering
or related field. The area of research is open; however preferred research areas
include biomedical engineering such as therapeutic and diagnostic devices, biomaterials,
biomechanics, pharmaceutical engineering, therapeutic delivery, cellular and tissue
engineering, reparative medicine, genetic engineering, and nanobiotechnology are
preferred. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to both
excellent research and teaching. Rank and salary is commensurate with experience
and qualifications.
The departent of Chemical Engineering has recently moved into the fully renovated
Ross Hall and Wilmore Laboratories which provide cutting edge research, instructional
and office space. These recent renovations have totaled $40 million in the last
few years, thus providing state of the art facilities. The department maintains
vibrant research programs with more than $4 million annually in sponsored research
expeditures. The Department of Chemical Engineering currently has 19 full-time
faculty, an undergraduate enrollment of 270 students and a graduate enrollment
of more than 75 students, with the majority of these in our Ph.D. graduate program.
The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering has a combined undergradute and graduate
enrollment of nearly 4,000 students and courses in engineering have been taught
at Auburn University since 1873. Auburn University has a long standing tradition
of excellence in Chemical Engineering with our first BS degree in chemical engineering
awarded in 1913, the first MS in 1919, the first BS female in 1918 and the first
PhD in 1974. The College represents the primary engineering education unit in
Alabama, enrolling one out of every two engineering students in the state.
Auburn University, chartered in 1856, is the largest university in ALabama,
with a diverse student enrollment of over 23,000 and 1,125 resident faculty.
Auburn offers baccalaureate degrees in approximately 150 different disciplines
in 64 academic departments. The Graduate School provides master's level programs
in 130 different areas and doctoral programs in 96 fields. The main campus, located
in Auburn, Alabama is situated on a beautiful 1,800 acre site. The Auburn-Opelika
community has a resident population of over 120,000, excellent public school systems,
and has been nationally recognized as one of the "best small towns in America."
By car, Auburn is 45 minutes from Montgomery, Alabama (the state capital) and
90 minutes from Birmingham, Alabama or Atlanta, Georgia.
