1.1 Offices
Space permitting, all graduate students will be assigned an office in the Aerospace Engineering Building by the Graduate Program Officer. In general, offices are allocated on the following priority basis: Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTA's), assigned to classroom instruction, GTA's assigned to laboratory instruction, Graduate Research Assistants (GRA's), GTA's assigned to grading, scholarship/fellowship students, and non-supported students. Within each category priority may be given according to graduate standing, seniority, and /or salary level. However, the Graduate Program Officer makes the final determination on the assignment of all offices. Students must obtain office keys in AE 211B and students may not change offices without approval of the Graduate Program Officer. All students' assigned offices are required to keep their offices neat and clean at all times. Upon completion of studies, students who have been assigned offices must return keys before departing campus.
1.2 Mail Boxes
All graduate students will be provided with a mail box located in AE 211. Students should check their box daily for announcements and other communications.
1.3 Computer Accounts
All graduate students must obtain a computer account on the Engineering Network from Engineering Computing and Network Services located in 103 L Building.
1.4 Electronic Registration
Upon arrival, all new graduate students must obtain an Electronic Registration Permit from the Graduate School in Hargis Hall and a personal access code (PAC) number from the Registrar in Martin Hall, in order to register for classes. Prior to initial registration, you must consult with the Graduate Program Officer who will serve as your temporary advisor until a permanent Major Professor is chosen. Students should follow registration procedures as described in Section 6.1 of this handbook.
After your initial registration, the Registrar requires that all currently enrolled graduate students pre-register for subsequent semesters. This pre-registration period begins near mid-semester and lasts for approximately four weeks. Students who do not pre-register are assessed a late fee by the Registrar.
1.5 Employment Forms
Those students who will be employed as a GTA or GRA must complete employment forms in AE 211B in order to be placed on the University payroll. Tuition waiver forms can also be completed at this time. Paychecks are to be picked up in AE 211B on the designated pay days each month.
1.6 Identification Cards
After initial registration, all new graduate students must obtain a student ID card. ID's are available at the ID Card Center in the Foy Union Building. Your student ID card will permit you access to the Aerospace Engineering Building after hours and on weekends.
1.7 Parking/Bicycle Permits
All graduate students are eligible to purchase a parking permit, which, along with bicycle permits, are available from Parking Services, located at the corner of Donahue Dr. and Thatch Ave...
1.8 Graduate Outreach Program
Each semester several aerospace engineering graduate courses are offered on video through the Graduate Outreach Program of the College of Engineering. Be aware that all aerospace engineering graduate courses are not offered on video, but it is generally possible to complete the course work required for the M.S. and M.A.E. degrees through video-based courses. Courses are offered on video at the discretion of the instructor for each course. If sufficient interests of off campus students exist in a particular course, the instructor may agree to offer the course on video even though the course has not been previously advertised as a video course. Additional information on the program and the schedule of courses is available online.
