Teams and Individuals Guided by Engineering Resources (TIGERs)

PROGRAMTigers camp participants

Teams and Individuals Guided by Engineering Resources (TIGERs) Camps are resident summer camps designed to expose students in grades 7-10 to the world of engineering. Engineers make the world a better place by designing things that make life easier, safer or that protect the environment.  Yet, studies show that middle school students know very little about careers in engineering.  This year we will offer two camps: one for rising 7th and 8th graders, the other for rising 9th and 10th graders

Your child might be interested in a career in engineering if her or she is creative, likes math and science and is interested in:

  • how things work
  • solving problems
  • working with a team of people

ACTIVITIES

Camp activities include workshops, tours and lectures guided by engineers and engineering students who will answer questions about what courses students need to take in middle and high school to prepare them for success in college and a fulfilling career in engineering.  Students will also participate in a number of hands-on activities in:

  • Aerospace
  • Biosystems
  • Chemical
  • Civil
  • Computer Science & Software and Wireless Software
  • Electrical
  • Industrial and Systems
  • Mechanical
  • Materials
  • Polymer and Fiber
  • Wireless

STAFF AND HOUSING

Students will have 24-hour supervision by experienced counselors. The camp will be conducted by faculty, staff and students from the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, ensuring that students receive a broad overview of the engineering profession.

Students will reside in air conditioned residence halls and dine in campus cafeterias.
