Competition Format

TEAMS is a two-part, timed competition taken all in one day. Part I is 90 minutes and consists of 80 multiple choice questions centered around 8 themes, all related to engineering athletic events. Part II is also 90 minutes and consists of short answer/essay questions that are extensions of 4 of the Part I themes. Students work together in teams of 4-8 people, and because TEAMS has an open-note, open-book, open-discussion format, students are able to really work together in ways they usually cannot.

This year's competition theme is "Behind the Scenes: Engineering Athletic Events," with all questions focusing on the engineering involved in pulling off a large scale athletic event such as the World Cup, Super Bowl, or Olympic Games. TEAMS answers that age old question, "when will I ever use this?" by showing how math and science applications affect our everyday lives.
