The
energy system of a solar home is a balance of energy
inputs and outputs. Energy comes into the home via
the photovoltaic solar panels, solar thermal collectors,
and passive solar systems. This energy is used by
a variety of household appliances, home office equipment,
lighting fixtures, an electric vehicle and the heating
and cooling systems. The mechanical and electrical
systems in our home move energy and water to places
where it is needed. The structural systems in our
home provide support and an envelope to buffer the
home from the outside environment.
Our
engineering design is a balance between the structural,
mechanical and electrical needs of this solar-based
energy system and the architectural elements of the
home.
