Practice for SCCA Nationals

In late September the Sports Car Club of America will holds it’s annual Solo II Nationals, which we plan to attend.  In preparation for this event we have gone to two SCCA autocrosses in the past two weeks.  On August 26th we went to a Test n’ Tune in Huntsville where each driver paid $40 for as many runs as they could get in.  We took two cars and most of the design leaders and everybody who went got at least ten runs.  We had hoped for a little more but a fatigued fastener in the steering system put the 2006 out of commission for nearly two hours.   However, thanks to a friend of the team’s who works at the Redstone Arsenal and gave us access to their machine shop, we were able to make a quick repair and get the car driving again.  The rest of the team drove 03 while that work was going on, so very little driving time was lost.

At Turner Field in Atlanta we drove with an eye towards selecting drivers for Nationals.  Unfortunately, we had a similar failure on the 2006 car and a fuel hose burst on the 2003 car.  Once again, thanks to the kindness of a fellow participant, who made the necessary repairs at his dad’s nearby job shop, we were able to get both cars back on the track with impressive speed.  Our drivers got lots of seat time and had lots of fun.  In the next couple of weeks we have some repairs to make to the 06 and 05 cars to get them ready for Nationals and we plan to be doing lots more driving out at our C-zone parking lot.

Check back often for more updates!
