Auburn
University will be the host of the 2010 ASCE conference.
Auburn University was founded in 1856 and has developed
into the South’s first land-grant university. Auburn
University has grown into one of the largest universities
in the South, remaining in the educational forefront
with its traditional blend of arts and applied science.
Auburn has also changed with the needs of today while
living with a respect for the traditions and spirit
that are Auburn. The main campus had a Fall 2008 enrollment
of 24,530. Auburn University offers degrees in 13 schools
and colleges at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional
levels.
Civil engineering degrees were one of the first engineering
degrees offered at Auburn. The civil engineering department
offers classes in seven specialty areas. The Department
of Civil Engineering at Auburn University is the largest
CE program in Alabama. Undergraduate degrees offered
include Bachelor of Civil Engineering and Bachelor of
Science in Environmental Science.

About University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB)
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Civil,
Construction and Environmental Engineering offers a broad-based
curriculum covering mechanics and structures, construction management,
surveying, transportation, water supply, sanitary engineering,
and environmental pollution abatement. Computer applications
and community outreach are emphasized in all areas. The
program is based on a strong foundation of mathematics, physical
sciences, humanities, and social sciences. Furthermore,
local industries provide our students with a unique set of opportunities
through mentorship and employment. Our departmental goal
is to provide students with a civil engineering education that
will enhance their ability to adapt to a rapidly changing global
environment, and allow them to create and apply knowledge for
the benefit of society.
About UAHuntsville
The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAHuntsville) is a
public co-educational, state-supported research university
within The University of Alabama System. UAHuntsville was
founded as part of the University of Alabama in 1950 and
became an autonomous campus within the UA System in 1969.
We are a research-intensive university and the anchor tenant
in Cummings Research Park, the second largest research park
in the United States. As part of its mission, UAHuntsville
is committed to rigorous scholarship, innovative education,
technological research, cultural growth and entrepreneurial
creativity in order to enrich our global community.
Total enrollment is about 7400, including about 1500 graduate
students; approximately 50 percent women, 50 percent men.
There are 189 students enrolled in our Department of Civil
and Environmental Engineering.
UAHuntsville incoming freshmen score an average of 25 on the
ACT examination, among the highest among Alabama's public
universities. We have more than 330 full-time faculty members;
92 percent have terminal degrees in their fields. The FTE
student/faculty ratio is 16:1.
UAHuntsville offers 61 degree-granting programs that meet the
highest standards of excellence, including 30 bachelor's
degree programs, 18 Masters' degree programs, and 13 Ph.D.
programs through its five colleges: Business Administration,
Liberal Arts, Engineering, Nursing, and Science. U.S. NEWS & WORLD
REPORT ranks UAHuntsville among the 150 best national doctoral
universities – a distinction shared by only seven percent
of the more than 2,000 four-year colleges in America.
The university received about $65 million in external funding
for active research projects during 2007-2008. Research sponsors
include federal and state agencies; academic institutions;
industry and private foundations. Research is conducted within
the individual colleges or through UAHuntsville's 17 independent
research centers, laboratories and institutes.
