The Auburn University Engineering Professional Development Program is pleased to announce an in-depth training course in erosion and sediment control for construction applications.  This course was developed to introduce and educate designers and practitioners on the “hows and whys” of developing and understanding storm water pollution prevention plans (SWPPPs).  Knowing and understanding what is required by the governing agencies (i.e., U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM)) will provide the foundation for properly developing quality SWPPPs.

This course will teach industry participants about the various causes of construction site erosion, and the strategies that can be adopted to prevent it from occurring.  The course will cover federal (USEPA) and local (ADEM) regulatory requirements, mechanisms affecting erosion, and the use, design and evaluation of erosion and sediment control devices.  A SWPPP template will be presented and discussed at the conclusion of the course, further developing the tools needed for successful compliance.

This seminar should be of interest to contractors, engineers, project managers, superintendents, state, county and municipal agency personnel, and consultants.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Have an understanding of the newly published USEPA/ADEM NPDES Construction General Permit compliance requirements
  2. Gain knowledge in the principles and practices of erosion and sediment controls and pollution prevention practices applied in construction
  3. Understand when inspections are required and when to perform maintenance activities
  4. Ability to develop and implement a storm water pollution prevention plan for a construction site
