More than 175 students and family members recently descended upon the Brown-Kopel Center for the annual Making a Difference in Engineering at Auburn University (MADE@AU) event, a program designed to encourage and foster support for women interested in learning more about the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering’s programs.
This free event — which is open to all students and is hosted by the college’s Office of Recruitment, K-12 Outreach and Scholarships — allows prospective students the opportunity to visit campus and learn all about what Auburn Engineering has to offer.
Students had the opportunity to interact with female faculty and staff, learn about engineering student services, meet successful alumni who are members of the college’s 100+ Women Strong organization and tour the engineering facilities.
“MADE@AU is a great way for incoming students, and undecided students, to get a closer look at everything Auburn Engineering has to offer,” said Andrew McGill, manager of engineering recruitment. “We are so thankful for the students, families, alumni and staff who pour into this event every year.”
During the event, guests were shown presentations by faculty and staff, followed by a browsing session of the various majors offered in the college, a tour of the eight different departments and lunch with keynote speaker Ruha Tacey, a 2012 Auburn chemical engineering graduate who has gone viral on social media as a STEM advocating influencer.
MADE@AU, which is geared toward high school juniors and seniors, was attended by students from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Tennessee, North Carolina and Indiana. Of the senior students who attended, 77% have already been admitted.
