David Mante, doctoral student and graduate research assistant in Auburn University’s Department of Civil Engineering, has been awarded the 2013-2014 American Concrete Institute (ACI) President’s Fellowship award. The fellowship is awarded to one graduate or doctoral student each year.

Mante is involved in a study to improve predictions of camber, or an arched surface, for precast, pre-stressed concrete highway bridge girders by examining time-dependent material properties of concrete. During his master’s degree research, he was part of a team that planned, constructed and tested a full-size bridge section, integrating a new precast concrete rapid bridge deck repair solution.

“Dave continues to be an outstanding graduate student — in the classroom, in the laboratory and in the field,” says Robert Barnes, James J. Mallett associate professor of civil engineering. He exhibits a rare combination of intellectual curiosity, practicality, and leadership — qualities that are vital for a successful career in structural concrete research and innovation.”
