Cormac J. Sreenan, professor of computer science at the University College Cork in Cork, Ireland, will present “Opportunistic Data Collection for Wireless Sensor Networks,” on Monday, Oct. 15, at 4 p.m. in 235 Broun Hall. His lecture is part of Auburn University’s Wireless Engineering fall seminar series.

Sreenan will discuss his research on smartphone data collection, which includes components of wireless sensor network applications, techniques for efficient connection between smartphones and sensor nodes, and algorithms for pre-forwarding of data between sensor nodes to improve collection rates.

Sreenan leads Cork’s Mobile and Internet Systems Laboratory where his team of externally-funded researchers are investigating wireless sensor networks and next-generation mobile networks. He earned his doctorate in computer science from Cambridge University and was previously on the research staff at AT&T Labs Research and Bell Labs Research.
