Alice Smith, faculty member in Auburn University’s Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, has been selected by the J. William Fulbright scholarship board as a candidate for the organization’s specialist roster.
The program is a short-term complement to the core Fulbright Scholar Program, sending U.S. faculty to serve as expert consultants on curriculum, faculty development, institutional planning and related subjects to overseas academic institutions for two to six weeks. Smith has been added to a roster of candidates who are eligible to be matched with overseas academic institutions requesting Fulbright Specialists. As a candidate, she may remain on the roster for up to five years.
Smith has written more than 200 publications, served as a principal investigator on more than $5 million of sponsored research and holds several international patents. She has received numerous honors and awards for her contributions to industrial and systems engineering. Her research interests include engineering accreditation, engineering administration and gender issues in engineering.
The Fulbright Scholar Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The program was founded in 1946 and is named after Sen. J. William Fulbrigh,t who introduced the legislation.
