Hareesh Tippur, McWane professor in Auburn University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, has been elected a fellow of the Society for Experimental Mechanics (SEM) at the organization’s 2011 annual conference, held last month in Uncasville, Conn. He has been an Auburn faculty member since 1990 and is the director of the university’s laboratory for failure characterization and optical techniques. Tippur’s research interests include the development of experimental and computational methods for failure characterization of advanced composite materials. He also serves as the editor-in-chief of Experimental Mechanics, the flagship journal of SEM.

SEM is an international, professional society formed in 1943 by engineers and scientists involved in new designs and materials. It is comprised of members from academia, government and industry who are committed to interdisciplinary application, research and development, education and active promotion of experimental methods in the physical sciences.
