Requirements for Ph.D.

  • Completion of a total of 60 credit hours
  • 30 hours of 6000/7000-level courses, of which at least 24 hours are MATL courses
  • 10-30 hours of MATL 8990
  • 0-20 hours of other coursework
  • At least 18 hours of graded courses taken at Auburn
  • No more than 12 hours of transfer credit.
  • CTEC Form
  • Qualifying Exam
  • Plan of study submitted in the second semester and approved by the advisory committee
  • Dissertation proposal, at least 1.5 years before graduation
  • Dissertation defense
  • Seminar presentation in the Graduate Seminar Series course
  • Advisory committee of 4-5 members, including at least 3 MATL professors and at least 1 from outside MATL

 

Dissertation Proposal

Students intending to graduate with a Ph.D. must submit their written dissertation proposal to their committee no less than 10 working days before their proposal and use the following guidelines for final submittal.

    1.  Draft proposal submitted to committee for approval

    2.  Final proposal submitted in proper format (e-file) to the Graduate School

 

Dissertation

Students intending to graduate with a Ph.D. must submit their written dissertation defense to their committee no less than 10 working days before their defense and use the following guidelines for final submittal.

    1.  Draft defense submitted to committee for approval

    2.  Approved draft submitted to outside reader

    3.  Defense scheduled through the Graduate School (include outside reader)

    4.  Final dissertation submitted in proper format to the Graduate School
